Our Beloved Fennec Foxes

Fennec foxes may be the smallest foxes in the world, but they have some of the biggest personalities you’ll ever encounter.

This month, we’re shining the spotlight on our trio of Fennec fox ambassadors—Fenix, Flip, and Fig. Whether they’re racing around their habitat, exploring every corner of a new environment, or charming visitors with their oversized ears and endless curiosity, these energetic little foxes never fail to make an impression.

Fennec on back

Fennec foxes are native to the deserts of North Africa, where their large ears help dissipate heat and their thick fur protects them from the harsh desert environment. While these remarkable adaptations help them thrive in the wild, it’s their playful nature and expressive faces that make them favorites among our guests.

In fact, our Fennecs were recently featured in our WW@35 series celebrating Wild Wonders’most popular animal ambassadors. After 35 years, they remain among the animals visitors ask about most often—and it’s easy to see why.

This month is especially exciting because two of our foxes are celebrating birthdays! Both Fenix and Flip have June birthdays, giving us another reason to celebrate these beloved ambassadors.

Want to meet them in person? Our Fennec Foxes and Friends Experience offers a chance to get up close with these fascinating animals while learning about their natural history and conservation. Or, for even more animal adventures, you can include the Fennecs in one of our Ultimate Experiences.
