Who’s New?

Introducing Meru! – June, 2018

Please welcome Meru, a one year old rock hyrax, that joined us in early June.  She will be a companion for Kopje, our other rock hyrax, who lost her sister Embale.  Hyrax have a very complex social structure, so we have been taking the introductions pretty slowly.  We are happy to report that they are now getting along beautifully!

Meru was named after Mount Meru in Tanzania, where you can find many, many rock hyrax.

Introducing Hasani! – July 29, 2018

Hasani is our newest cheetah. He is 8 months old, and came to Wild Wonders from another education facility.

He’s still bonding with his keepers and mastering his “leash training”. Soon he’ll be part of the Wild Wonders animal ambassador family, and will participate in our “Cheetah Chats”.

A Talk on the Wild Side

Enjoy an entertaining afternoon with animal ambassadors, wild things and wild places!  Get up close and personal with bearcats, honeybears, alligators and more while leaving with a better understanding and hope for the future of these amazing creatures.

Bring the entire family and join us on Saturday, November 3, from 2:00 – 3:00 at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center in La Jolla.

Tickets for adults are $20, and $15 for children under 12. Special VIP tickets are available for $35, which will have preferred seating and a meet and greet with Jackie and the animals immediately following the conclusion of the presentation.

Wildlife Photography in San Diego and SoCal

Looking for a new venue for your Photography Club or Meetup?

Let Wild Wonders host your group for a fun 90 minute photo shoot with our animal ambassadors.  We offer a wide variety of animals – from cheetahs to armadillos to birds of prey to porcupines.  Our keepers will make sure our stars are ready for your visit and have their best paws, wings, or scales forward.

Many animals can be brought out from their enclosures and displayed in a natural setting.  Some, like our Great Horned Owl, may need to be held.  Others, like our cheetahs, lynx, and servals, will be in their exercise yard which has grass for a backdrop and you can shoot through a fence which is wide enough for a standard lens.

Need to come on a Saturday or Sunday?  No problem.  We are open 7 days a week.

Want to shoot during the morning light?  Of course.  We can accommodate you as early as 8AM.

What does this cost?

We require a minimum of 5 people to host your event.  And so that you can all have the best viewing opportunities, there is a maximum group size of 15.

5-10 people:  $40 / person

11- 15 people:  $30 / person

Some things to know

Please wear closed toed shoes.  Many of our pathways are covered in bark.

Wearing a hat in the sun is always a good idea.  However, some of our animals might be disturbed by your hat, and you may be asked to remove it while photographing that animal.

Our terrain is uneven, and the stairs up to the cheetah enclosure are railroad ties.  If you have mobility issues, this could be especially challenging.

How do I book an event?

To request a specific time and date, please fill in the reservation request form HERE.  If you are not sure what date you want, you can list a few and we will work with you to determine which one is best for you and for us.  Also, in the comments field, please note that this will be a Photography event.

Wild Wonders is hosting a fun event to celebrate Cheetahs, one of the most highly endangered big cats. Come join us on July 21 from 3:00 – 5:00 near our Cheetah enclosure while you sip wine and paint your own Cheetah masterpiece.

Our friends from Wine and Canvas have created a custom painting based on photos of our Cheetahs, Victor and Masika. In just two hours, their artists will guide you step-by-step so your inner Michelangelo can produce a beautiful painting to take home.

Wild Wonders will supply wine and nibbles, and introduce you to our magnificent Cheetahs.  The cost is $65/person.  A portion of the proceeds will go to Cheetah Outreach, one of our conservation partners based in South Africa.

You’ve taken your team bowling, to the movies, out for pizza, and for a picnic at the local park.  Having trouble thinking of something new for a group outing?  Want something that is more than just an experience that is forgotten in a week?

Sign your team up for a field trip to Wild Wonders.  Our 10 acre wild animal refuge in San Diego’s North County houses over 120 animal ambassadors – everything from cheetahs to armadillos to kinkajous to wallabies to porcupines, birds of prey, and reptiles.  One of of our professional biologists will host your team for a one hour tour of our facility, and while learning about the animals, you’ll also hear about conservation efforts helping to protect their natural habitat.

To make the conservation message even stronger, you are guaranteed to interact with a few of our ambassadors.  When you touch an animal, you can’t help but develop a bond that makes you care about them.  Want to get a photo of Julie petting a porcupine?  Or Jamal touching a bearcat?  Or maybe Susie with one of our snakes?  How fun would those be to share around the office?

Our tours and field trips consistently are five star rated, and our prices are reasonable.  To request a reservation, use the form on the “Tours and Field Trips” page accessible by clicking on this button.
